To the girl who doesn't feel "bikini ready" and spring break is next week:
Girl I get, it I promise! I have spent many weeks before spring break googling "How to lose 10 lbs in one week" or "How to glow up overnight". I have eaten the salad and went to the extra workout class. I have felt all the comparison feels and the not good enough feels. Heck, I still feel those feelings! It is a battle that I think every girl fights, but the Lord desires better for us. He says that our worth is not measured by the number on the scale or how good we look in a bikini! Our worth is found in him, and him alone. I know that is much easier to say than to believe, but it is SO TRUE! Psalm 139:13-14 says, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." The Lord knew you before you were even born. He knit you together in you mother's womb. When he looks at you he says, "My daughter, you are so beautiful. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. There is no flaw in you". Let that sink in. Jesus, the creator of the heavens and the earth, the God that paints every sunrise and sunset, calls YOU beautiful. He says you are FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made. Whether you fit into your size 2 jean shorts or not, whether you have a six pack in your bikini or not, whether you ate a salad for lunch or a Chick-fil-a #1 meal, he calls you BEAUTIFUL. He is PROUD that you are his daughter.
The Lord knows when we are insecure and worried about our appearance, and it breaks his heart to see us feel that way. But he is a good father, and he calls us higher than that. We see the perfect example of this in 1 Samuel 16:7, "But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." So take it from Jesus himself, try to shift your focus on the things of the heart, not on your outward appearance.
Want some more good news? In 10 years you are not going to remember how much you weighed on spring break 2024, and you're not going to remember what size you wore. You are going to remember the fun memories you made! Your going to remember the belly laughs with your friends, the accidental sun burns from laying out too long, the yummy fried shrimp basket you ate, and the movie nights with your parents. Whatever your spring break looks like this year, your going to remember the memories, not how you looked making them.
So how do we shift our mindset? We have to identify the lies the enemy is telling us about ourselves, and replace them with what Jesus says about us. Here are a few verses that tell you exactly what he thinks about you. I encourage you to pick one or two, and memorize them! When you start to believe the lies or think negative things about yourself, speak these verses over yourself, until your mindset shifts.
- CHOSEN: "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." 1 Peter 2:9
- GOOD "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
- NEW CREATION: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" 2 Corinthians 5:17
- A TEMPLE: "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
I pray you have the most fun and restful spring break!! Don't worry about how you look, rest your mind on who Jesus says you are, and have the best time with your friends and family!!
